28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has finally brought back Cillian Murphy’s Jim from the original film, 28 Days Later. The anticipated threequel in the famed franchise was shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later, which also received ample critical acclaim.

Here’s how the film incorporated Cillian Murphy’s character in the story.

How Cillian Murphy’s Jim returns in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

There were talks of Cillian Murphy returning in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, but with the character completely missing from the previous film, it was a big question mark as to how the film planned to accommodate him.

It turns out that Murphy’s Jim appears in a brief but important cameo at the end of the film. As the story comes to a close, the final scene of the film cuts to the very recognizable cottage from the franchise. This is the same cottage seen at the end of 28 Days Later. Inside the cottage, Murphy’s character can be seen helping his daughter prepare for her history exam.

As Jim hears a noise, he goes on to investigate with his daughter close by. As they get out armed, they spot Spike (Alfie Williams) and Ink (Erin Kellyman) being chased by a group of infected. Jim’s daughter asks him if they were going to intervene, to which Jim replies, “Of course we are.”

The screen fades to black as they prepare to take them on, effectively ending the film on a cliffhanger.

While Cillian Murphy’s role was brief and not on par with what many would have expected, this served as a perfect way of reintroducing him in the franchise. This is especially important because there is a sequel to Bone Temple coming. This means that Cillian Murphy’s Jim could be a prominent part of the cast in the next part.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is now playing in theatres.
